Medical Marijuana Helps to Treat Autism and Several other Diseases

Medical MarijuanaIn the U.S, one in every 68 children has been diagnosed with the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders). ASD affects the behavioral dysfunction and neurological development generally becomes evident with the third year of the child. While several medications have proved to be ineffective, a treatment having medical marijuana is gaining momentum. The disorders included in ASD are Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

ASD has not been identified only through a single behavior, instead, it crosses the behavioral spectrum for including curtailed interests, lack of social skills and communication restrictions and that includes repetitive behavior. Currently, there is no cure for Autism; however, occasional recovery has been occurred. One of the concerns for an autistic child is a greater probability of seizures as soon as the age of puberty is reached.

The two primary compounds which are found in the medical marijuana include THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). It is the THC compound which produces the psycho activity associated with the marijuana. CBD has medicinal properties, however; it does not contribute to any psycho activity. It gives long-lasting analgesic effects, helps in the treatment of cancer, multiple sclerosis, arthritis and also reduces inflammation.

Recently there are many medical conditions for which doctors can prescribe medical marijuana. They are severe weight loss, glaucoma, muscle atrophy, severe pain or nausea, cancer, AIDS and seizures. For treating Autism effectively, the medical marijuana requires to be high in CBD ratio and not in THC. CBD can be utilized in a multiple of ways, and dosages can be obtained for use in different needs and lifestyles.  Cannabis also helps in reducing anxiety that mostly leads to seizures and tantrums.

Recently, a story of 5-year-old Charlotte Figi, details her success of increasingly reduced seizures, has given rise to the fame of high CBD hemp oil.  It is a liquid made by extracting the cannabinoids from the plants taken with a capsule orally or can be mixed with nice tasting smoothies. Since medical marijuana has become more readily available all over the country, therefore using it as a feasible treatment for Autism is going to become more of a reality.
